Beginning April 1, 2017, applications will be accepted for the Spelman College Curatorial Studies Program, a collaboration between the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art and the Department of Art & Art History. People of color have been underrepresented in curatorial positions in the museum field. By increasing the diversity among curators, museums will generate new and innovative engagement with art and ultimately serve diverse audiences better. The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art and the Department of Art & Art History, which are committed to preparing the next generation of arts leaders, have joined forces to offer this unique program. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES    
The objectives of the Curatorial Studies Program are to:

The program requires a two-year commitment and will be limited to 12 participants. While students will continue to work closely with their principal academic advisors, members of the Spelman College Curatorial Studies Advisory Committee will serve as project advisors.

ELIGIBILITY
Rising sophomores and juniors, regardless of their major, who are enrolled at Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morehouse College, are eligible. Students must have successfully completed Understanding Visual Art, Art History I, or Introduction to Art History by May 2017. The selection process is competitive and participants with strong writing, research, and critical thinking skills are encouraged to apply. The program is limited to 12 students.

Applications will only be accepted electronically and may be accessed below beginning April 1, 2017. Only completed applications will be considered. The names of two references and a current resume are required. Accompanying materials should be attached as PDFs.
