Like Renée Stout, Kelly Taylor Mitchell’s artistic practice investigates the African Diaspora. Both explore matters of the spirit with reverence and discernment. Through ritual, sensorial activations and objects, Mitchell conjures connections to her ancestors to present speculative futures, specifically related to concepts of community autonomy, swamp marronage, and inherited identity. From her studio at Atlanta Contemporary, Kelly will be in conversation with curator and Black Women in Visual Arts co-founder Daricia Mia DeMarr (hyperlink ‘Daricia Mia DeMarr’ to @dariciamia_pi) about identifying moments of ancestral magic through art.
