Commuter Student Services

In the Office of International & Commuter Student Services, our motto is “Committed to Connecting Commuters to Spelman College.” A significant number of students live off campus, and we are dedicated to assisting our students have a positive experience with the multitude of campus activities at Spelman. We have designed the following services and programs to make commuting to Spelman easier and to help facilitate the connection to campus life.

Off Campus Housing Listing

The Office of International and Commuter Student Services is committed to providing students with services that have a positive impact on their off campus living experience. Searching for a place to live can be stressful. To assist you with your search, the Office is please to offer a database of housing in the metro Atlanta area. As a currently enrolled student, you can utilize the Off Campus Housing Listing by using your Spelman identification number to login.

Property owners: If you have a place to rent in metro-Atlanta, you can list your property with us. Providing your information will allow Spelman students to access your property information with ease. You can click here to access the Off Campus Housing List. As a courtesy to our community, please call us immediately when the listings are no longer available. This courtesy is beneficial to both you and the student.

The Office of International and Commuter Student Services maintain this list of available rental properties as a convenience to both students and the property owners. Spelman College has not checked or approved these accommodations.

The Commuter Lounge

The Commuter Student Lounge is located on the lower level of the Manley College Center. Designed for commuters, including Gateway students, the lounge is furnished with comfortable chairs, a television, tables, and computers. The lounge is a great place to pause between classes, eat, meet friends or make a new friend, or just relax.

Transportation

The Atlanta University Shuttle is available to you as a student at the College. The shuttle transport students throughout the Atlanta University Center as well as the West End, Vine City and Ashby Street Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) stations.

Did you know that Spelman College participates in the MARTA University Pass (U-Pass) program? You can purchase a monthly MARTA card at the Cashiers Office at discounted rate by showing your Spelman ID. MARTA operates rail and bus services throughout DeKalb and Fulton counties. The system also connects to bus systems within Cobb, Clayton and Gwinnett counties.

The Commuters Student Association

Commuters also are invited to join the Commuters Student Association, a student organization chartered through the Spelman Office of Student Activities. The organization holds meetings and sponsors activities for commuters and other students.

Temporary Stays on Campus

Commuter students can connect to campus life by spending time in the residence halls. With appropriate authorization and the consent of all room occupants, residential students may have an occasional overnight guest. When spending the night, the commuter student must sign in and give the name and room number of the student whom she is visiting. She should also leave contact information in case of an emergency.

Overnight visits extending longer than three nights must be approved by the Director of Residential Life, and in unusual circumstances, by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Commuter students are subject to all of the regulations of the College and the residence halls during their visit.
