Germaine McAuley, chair of physical education and director of athletics at Spelman College, has been selected to receive the 2008 "Women Putting Their Stamp on Atlanta" award for education.

The Atlanta District of the United States Postal Service will honor women in the Atlanta area communities who have helped improve the quality of life for all citizens through categories such as: Abilities Awareness, Arts or Entertainment, Diversity Champion, Business, Education, Government Service or Law, Growing Leadership, Health or Social Services, Humanitarianism, Media, Sports, Volunteerism and Youth Achiever.

McAuley was appointed to the faculty of Spelman College in 2004. Her career represents extensive work with institutions of higher education.

At Spelman, she has the honor of assisting students and working with faculty members on a daily basis. Each student at Spelman must matriculate through the physical education department, as it is an expectation for their college careers. McAuley, along with the other honorees will be awarded at a luncheon on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Cobb Galleria Center.

Spring Sports Ready for 2008 Season

As winter season comes to a close, Coach Mercer and the basketball team are looking ahead to post-season play, which begins on Tuesday Feb. 26 and culminates with the conference championship held at Piedmont College (Demorest, Ga.).

Spring sports (golf, softball, tennis) are preparing for the 2008 season and are set to compete through the month of April.
