Andrea Barnwell Brownlee, Ph.D., Director of the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, and Mora Beauchamp-Byrd, Ph.D, the Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History and Curatorial Studies, recently traveled with the Curatorial Studies Program students to Washington, DC to attend the James A. Porter Colloquium at Howard University and visit private collections. This year’s Colloquium featured the many of the most dynamic artists, scholars, academics, and curators including Sadie Barnett, Dawoud Bey, Kirsten Buick, Ph.D, Kimberly Camp, Bridget Cooks, Ph.D, Adger Cowans, David C. Driskell, Catrina Hill, Sarah Lewis, Ph.D., Lorna Simpson, Margaret Rose Vendryes, Ph.D, and so many others. Big Congratulations to Gwen Everett, Ph.D. C’73, Dean, Division of Fine Arts, and Melanee Harvey C’2008, Lecturer, Art Department, for organizing such a stellar examination of art and the archive. Here are a few highlights of their trip.
