Vision
We envision The Marion Wright Edelman Center as a leader and role model in early childhood education, integrating the latest proven techniques and materials. We want to produce students who are confident and able to perform successfully as they experience life.
History
The Spelman College Nursery-Kindergarten School, The Marion Wright Edelman Center, became a part of the resources of the college in 1930 under the leadership of Miss Perlie E. Reed. It was the first laboratory school established in a black college. The School provided experiences for children in physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth and development . It served as a training center for parents; a practice field for college student; a research laboratory for graduate students in education and psychology, and an observation center of our children.
